    Domestic Violence Community Advocate

    Job Description

    YWCA Oklahoma City is currently seeking a full time Domestic Violence Community Advocate. Advocate will be stationed at Palomar Family Justice Center. Primary objectives of this position are to assist Victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in achieving physical and emotional safety, becoming self-sufficient, accessing community resources, and transitioning to independent living that is free from violence. 

    The successful candidate will:

    -Serve as primary advocate for non-residential crisis clients, providing them with safety planning, information, referrals, crisis intervention, emotional support, and encouragement either by appointment.

    -Provide services by appointment or “walk-in” in a variety of locations based on the specific needs of the client.

    -Assess the needs of potential crisis clients and perform intake and assessment procedures.

    -Complete safety planning with each assigned client.

    -Assess client’s needs and make appropriate referrals related to community resources, job skills and financial literacy needs.

    -Collaborate with each assigned client to develop and individualize services to establish an empowerment (goal) plan based on client’s needs.

    -Participate in on-call rotation for responding to the crisis needs clients. This will include non-traditional hours, i.e. evenings, weekends, holidays etc.

    -Provide and coordinate language, interpretation and cultural support needs.

    -Coordinate services for crisis clients by maintaining contact with other case workers, counselors, or agencies working with the client.

    -Update clients’ case files as required by state statute and YWCA policy and procedures and record all transactions /services/communications with residents in the files.

    Requirements

    Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Service field, a Master's Degree is preferred. One year's experience in the field of domestic violence and/or sexual assault is preferred. Strong listening, verbal and written communication and organizational skills are required. 

    This position will require a combination of day/evening hours as well as schedule flexibility to meet the needs of our clients.
