    Job Description
    Position Summary: 

    The Assistant Director of Strategic Outreach and Law Alumni Engagement is responsible for managing School of Law appeals, the School of Law Stewardship Plan, researching donors and advancement opportunities, and assisting School of Law alumni service functions. The Assistant Director will also assist with School of Law social media and marketing efforts.
    The individual in this position is expected to embrace key values of the university’s and law school’s advancement program – passion for OCU Law School, partnership with donors, and a people-centered approach demonstrating support for them through professional interactions and activities.


    A bachelor's degree is required. A minimum of three years’ professional experience, preferably in fundraising, alumni or constituent relations, event planning, marketing, promotions, or related fields.
    A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.

    • Knowledge of basic accounting/budgeting procedures; skills in basic math.
    • Superior computer skills with specific knowledge and experience with MS word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Must be comfortable with technology and flexible in regard to learning new technology unique to the university.
    • Ability to update website and use social media effectively.
    • Ability to develop and use alumni database services.
    • Strong project management skills with experience leading diverse teams in completing complex and varied projects.
    • Ability to handle and organize multiple tasks and various special projects on an ongoing basis while addressing daily needs for the office.

    Essential Functions:

    School of Law Strategic Outreach Programs and Initiatives
    • Manages the School of Law appeals calendar and assists all members of the team to ensure that timelines are established and deadlines are met.
    • Works with other Advancement team members in developing vision for School of Law appeals and takes lead in successful execution of appeals.
    • Assists in external fundraising through securing Sword and Gavel members and leads recruitment of Alumni Association members.
    • Researches grant opportunities and drafts grant applications.
    • Prepares proposals for solicitations.
    Law Alumni Engagement
    • Oversees School of Law alumni relations program.
    • Manages the Law Alumni Association Board.
    • Coordinates with Law Advancement/External Relations functions and University Advancement to assist in planning special events other projects that will engender a positive feeling about the law school among alumni.
    • Provides information and support for Alumni Association Board meetings and helps manage the work of Alumni Association committees. Works to ensure all committees are achieving their goals, provides communication on meetings.
    Communications and Marketing Activities
    • Design and write graphics, invitations, email communications and other promotional pieces.
    • Designs, orders and manages promotional items for the department and school for events and speakers.
    • Also collaborates on all law school social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.
    • Supports the efforts of the Marketing Director for the annual In Brief  law magazine regarding design, content collaboration and copy.
    • Assists in social media and web content relating to alumni relations.
    • Coordinate the law school’s digital message boards by uploading content as needed, deploying to appropriate screens, and maintaining content to keep boards current.
    Annual Giving and Stewardship Support
    • Assists the University Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship in planning stewardship events for students to thank donors, such as Thanks & Pancakes.
    • Assists the University Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship in managing School of Law stewardship Program and partners with University Advancement to ensure law donors are properly stewarded.
    • Assists the University Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship in providing analytical and administrative support on a variety of projects, programs and issues; compiles data, solicit and research information from a variety of sources.
    • Assists the University Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship in preparing documentation for Executive Board meetings, records and prepares minutes.
    • Assists the University Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship in completing Appeal Checklist and List Request Form with the help of the project initiator.
    • Assists the University Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship in managing End of Year Appeal solicitation including mailing, promotion and donor gifts.
    • Assists the University Director of Annual Giving and Stewardship in managing Blackbaud NetCommunity, the law school’s portal for giving, alumni association and communication outreach. This includes developing and maintaining webpages, creating content and distribution of information, and overseeing the law school’s online alumni database.
    Law Advancement Operations
    • Researches inquiries, both internal and external, provides a prompt, accurate response or makes appropriate referral and follow-up. 
    • Maintains and monitors departmental budgets for Advancement and External Relations; prepares and submits payment requests for all department expenses; verifies, allocates, and posts details of business transactions; prepares requisitions. Serves as point person for all expense inquiries.
    • Manages data and performs various specialized computer functions; maintains and updates databases using software including, but not limited to Raiser’s Edge and Banner; updates various computerized files.
    • Assists in hiring and supervising student employees. Manages work assignments and provides positive coaching and mentoring to student employees in order to provide a professional work experience.
    • Acts as the custodian for department records; ensures integrity and confidentiality of correspondence, reports, resources, files and databases.
    • Works with University Advancement and School of Law Budget Manager to handle and process gift deposits
