    Job Description
    Position Summary: The Legal Director of the Center Criminal Justice (CCJ) is responsible for the implementation and support of the long-term and strategic plan to sustain the work of the CCJ.  In addition, the Legal Director is responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the CCJ and all matters relevant thereto.  The Legal Director will also teach and supervise students in the Bail and Bond Clinic and other related clinics. 
    The Center focuses on all aspects of the criminal justice process, from pre-trial hearings to post-trial conviction relief, to address the need to create a more equitable criminal justice system. The Center sponsors research and policy proposals on the underlying causes of crime, the disparate effect of the law on specific communities, and the very high rate of incarceration in Oklahoma County and the state.  The Center also sponsors a student clinic focusing on the representation of indigent defendants in the post-arrest process and an annual conference on criminal justice reform.

    Additional Information About This Position: The resources for this position are the result of a grant, a form of temporary funding.  In addition to typical performance standards, appointment to this position beyond one year is contingent upon successfully securing additional temporary funds.  If sufficient funding is not identified, employment will be terminated accordingly.
    Additionally, please be aware that the certain aspects of employment are governed by the grant, which can include exclusion from certain benefit eligibility and coverage, changes in pay, credit toward university years of service, special university incentive programs, and other factors.  

    Education/Experience:
    Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school.
    The Legal Director must be licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma.
    At least two years of relevant experience.

    Essential Functions: 
    • Develop and implement a long-term strategic plan for the CCJ, in cooperation with other School of Law administrators and faculty.
    • In cooperation with the law school advancement department, generate financial support through grants and other external sources of funding.
    • Develop fundraising goals and objectives.
    • Develop and maintain partnerships with law firms, agencies, foundations, and other institutions to advance the mission of the CCJ.
    • Plan events and conferences, including the CCJ’s annual conference on Criminal Justice.
    • Teach (as an adjunct faculty member) and supervise students in the Bail and Bond Clinic and related clinics.
    • Manage the overall operations and budget of the CCJ.
    • Recruit and train volunteer attorneys, legal assistants, investigators, and others to assist in the work of the CCJ.
    • Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and best practices
    • Develop and manage public relations and communications for the CCJ.
